…stupid, isn’t it? PNG’s behave so much better than gifs do for me. They go transparent in ways that a gif wouldn’t dream about doing.
So why can’t microsoft get their heads around showing them neatly in a browser for me? I want them to be transparent, kadammit!
Firefox does this nicely. Is firefox the only browser that handles them? Should I avoid png’s? I don’t want to do that. But I also don’t want to exclude users from the thing I’m trying to build…
IE actually does support PNG-files. Even back in version 6. But Microsoft decided (for whatever retarded reason) to implement it in a completely ass-backwards way. To get transparent PNG’s you first need to tell IE (through CSS-code) to activate it, and this code of course breaks the standards and makes it funky in every other browser.
But that’s the way of Microsoft. They always extend and embrace and then choke the shit out of every standard they haven’t “invented” themselves.
I suggest using this for IE browsers prior to 7.0:
filter:progid:DXImageTransform.Microsoft.AlphaImageLoader(src=’hest.png’,sizingMethod=’scale’);”

I would rather Microsoft got ther shit together and supported files in their browsers.
I can’t put all that code in everytime I want a picture to be shown on a website! =P

But somehow I don’t want to write browser specific code when there should be a standard for how browsers handle things…
I hope you’re using Apache. If so, enable RewriteEngine and define this in a .htaccess-file:
RewriteEngine on
RewriteRule .*.css$ css.php
That’ll do it.
Well, me neither. But PNG is worth it.
I haven’t uploaded the project anywhere yet. I’m just testing it on my computer. I’d rather not write code that won’t work if wherever I upload to later won’t let me fiddle with the server settings…
