In wich country am I living in? Is this what we want to advertize to our surroundings that we are?
We live in a country where the police makes a number of ISP’s censor a number of sites. The reason for censorship is “a number of complaints from the public”.
These are the operators that do the censoring:
- Bredbandsbolaget/Glocalnet/Telenor
- ComHem
- Rix|Port80
- Sunet
- Swepet Satellit
- TDC Song
- Tele2
- TeliaSonera
- 3
Sadly we have Telia as ISP, and we cannot change ISP since they own all connections to our house. We checked. We didn’t want them in the first place.
And this is why we can’t access sites like http://koreabonsai.com/. Yes, it’s true! It’s on the list! I can’t access it.
So I have a plan. I really don’t like our government. I don’t like their colors. I don’t like their politics. I don’t like how they fooled a lot of swedes into believing they would actually be better off with them at the power.
So why don’t we all tell the police that they have illegal child porn on their sites? Getting their sites blocked by the police ought to get them a bad reputation and away from government next election?
Hey! Police! I think there is illegal porn at http://www.moderat.se!!! I haven’t seen it myself, but I’m sure it’s there somewhere! Put them on the blocklist!
Even though it’s very tempting to start changing ISP, the only practical thing you need to do is change the DNS that your connection uses to resolve domains. I suggest using the OpenDNS-servers.
This makes this whole filtering even more retarded, since it relies heavily on the users using the ISP/DHCP-supplied DNS. Anyone with even basic technical knowledge (and this would quickly include a child pornographer) would without much effort easily get around this “filter”.
OpenDNS doesn’t help in my pursuit of bonsai trees… I still can’t access the site. =(
Perhaps OpenDNS will work better for you if you clear the browser cache (“Clear Private Data” in FireFox, “Delete Browsing History” in IE7).
And you might need to reboot your computer.
I can view the site now. I don’t know if it is Telia that stopped blocking it or if it’ because I restarted my computer a while back, but it’s working now…
