I feel dirty. I didn’t know! I thought Sims could never mess my computer up. ‘Cause it’s so cute and all…
*sigh* I was wrong. I installed Bon Voyage, and now I read that it installed SecuROM on my coomputer.
Well, EA. That WOULD have been a very effective anti-piracy-tool. If you would just have TOLD me about you having it on there, I would have never installed this EP. I wasn’t even very excited about it.
But it’s all to late now, isn’t it?
We do not recommend removing SecuROM from your machine. It is used by other Electronic Arts games that may be installed on your machine.
What if I don’t play any other EA games? That’s not the real reason, is it? I’m not happy with you guys right now, EA!
Does it use the latest version, the one in bioshock for instance, or a version prior to this? Only latest is the only one afaik that install it self as a service. The older ones is like “normal” protection that only reside in the game .exe and some other files on the CD.
http://www.gamecopyworld.com generaly has no-cd’s for games, look there. After you applied a no-cd you can remove the service (if any) and you are again “clean”. Securom don’t tries to hide it self, just a normal service like Nod32 service or file/printing sharing 🙂
btw, why suprised? All versions of sims has securom, and you have em all. vote with your money (if you paid that is) 😛 If there was no piracy of games there would not be any need for copy protection. I remember the old days with a black-on-black codebook (some tennis game to amiga) or a rotating-circle thingy (Cruise for a corpse to amiga)….
Version… I don’t know! I got upset due to everyone elses reaction over here.
And according to them, there was no SecuROM untill H&M, celebrations and BV. But it wasn’t untill BV there was an actual problem… Again, this is just waht I read.
And yeah, no… I didn’t pay for BV. But I got it before it was in the store. Now… how was that copy-protection supposed to work? Ofcourse I wouldn’t have gotten it if I had known, and it would have worked that way… but that failed too.
Well, the only addon afaik i know that has securom is seasons and the original sims 2 cd/dvd. So i find it logical that the next “large” update brings another cd-check in system.
I would think this is the same version as in the original sims 2 CD/DVD and/or seasons CD.
Oh wait..
seemed to mix em up a bit.
Original CD was safedisc 3, other discs safedisc 4. Bon voyage is Securom V7. Bioshock is securom 7 but has the added online activation system, that brings the dreaded “spyware, rootkit” service.
source? http://www.gamecopyworld.com
What’s your point?
ahhh nevermind, i was just chasing my own tail 😛
But securom sux, Supreme commander had it and it caused all sort of strange problems but they patched it away (ie removed it) wich is wunderbart 😛
