There is an explanation to the mere 35 000 votes. At the time of the last election “noone” had heard about the Pirate Party but computer enthusiasts with a special interest (taking on the same role as canaries in a mine). Since then, a series of aberrant, intrusive anti-liberty laws have been passed by the government, including mass-surveillance on the net – which has provoked fury among swedes. Now everybody knows what the Pirate Party stands for.

And it is no longer a fight about copyright. This is about fundamental civil rights on line – against the governments smothering of freedom and liberty of expression with censorship, surveillance and control.
And this even without suspecting a crime.
